Following the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, the club reopened on Tuesday 7th September 2012. Initially we are meeting in the hall called Storrow, rather than the bar, as it is a larger space with better ventillation. COVID mitigation measures include:
Sharp's Folk Club normally meets every Tuesday (except in August) at Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regents Park Road, London, NW1 7AY; my Cecil Sharp House page describes how to get there.
Most evenings at Sharps are singers' nights, which means that anyone is welcome to volunteer to sing, play an instrument, tell a story, etc. Evenings are run by one of a rota of MCs who invites singers and musicians to perform in turn. About once a month a guest artist is booked; the programme lists forthcoming bookings.
Each evening begins at 8pm. Admission is £4.00 per person (£3.50 for performers) on singers' nights, and on guest nights usually £6.00 (£5.00).
For news of the club see our Twitter feed The real Sharps folk club or our Facebook page Sharps Folk Club.
During Covid-19 restrictions the club met online every Tuesday evening. Videos of these events are available on our YouTube channel.
At various times Time Out magazine has said of Sharps:
This long-standing, friendly and enjoyable club.
Hugely enjoyable evenings of song and music making.
One of the friendliest, worthiest traditional folk clubs left in London.
In 1991 the club produced a cassette tape An evening at Sharp's which aimed to present a typical evening at the club, featuring most of the club's regular singers at the time of recording.
